EDC: The “key” to being prepared

·

So what is EDC? EDC stands for Everyday Carry. Think bug-out bag, but much smaller – items that can go in a pocket, a purse, or on a keychain. I’ve even heard of people keeping small survival items in an Altoids tin!

A keychain with three items on it: a small knife, a multitool, and a glowstick.
My keychain EDC (from left): mini glowstick, multitool, small knife

I’ve always been interested in EDC items, but a couple of months ago I did a deep dive and researched all the great keychain EDC items that are out there. From the various articles I read online, I selected three items to add to my keychain:

  1. A mini glowstick – the TEC A3 Aluminum Embrite Glow Fob
  2. The Keyport Moca multitool
  3. A SOG key knife

(Note: Be aware of laws in your area around carrying knives! This one is NOT TSA-approved, for example.)

(Also note: None of these sellers knows I exist, much less that I’m recommending their products. I don’t get any kickbacks from this, these are just my opinions.)

I’ve been happy with all three items. The glow fob has a nice bright glow to it that helps when we forget to turn on the porch light and have to unlock the door at night, although I’ve been considering getting a tiny flashlight instead. I’ve used the box cutter on the multitool a couple of times now, and if that doesn’t work I just whip out my key knife and get the box open that way!

Since this is an EDC post, seems appropriate to keep it bite-sized. Let me know in the comments if you’d like me to do a deeper look at this topic sometime!
