Bug-Out Bag Deep Dive: The Rest of It

·

,

This is my “miscellaneous” category – but don’t be fooled; some of the most critical items actually fall into this bucket!

The miscellany in bug-out bag 1
And the same category for Bag 2

So what’s in this grouping? For one thing, a change of clothes. I have a fresh pair of underwear, socks, and a clean T-shirt in each bag, and I should probably have two so my family members can change clothes too!

Each bag has a dry sack or two, you never know when you’ll need one of those and they don’t take up much room. Also a bag of zip ties, which could come in handy for attaching various things together, a tick remover tool, and (because I’m a huge nerd) an inventory of what’s in each bag. And there’s a paracord bracelet in each bag, for some extra paracord I guess? Or a fashionable bracelet? Who knows.

And of course, each bag has a knife, a good, fixed-blade knife. The Morakniv one in Bag 1 was highly recommended by a couple different sites (it includes a small ferro rod and diamond sharpener too), and the one in Bag 2 is nothing special but it cuts stuff fine.

Finally, there are a few extra items in Bag 2. There’s a great multitool that was given to me years ago, and I don’t know what happened to my multitool in Bag 1 but I need to get another one since they do so many tasks! There’s a Sharpie with some duct tape wrapped around it, and it would be good to have some duct tape in Bag 1 as well, maybe not a full roll but a decent amount. The last thing in Bag 2 is a set of flexible little liquid containers, and I think I’ll put some mint Dr Bronner’s in those since it’s versatile for washing anything you need to.

That concludes our bug-out bag deep dive series! What did you think? What am I missing? Please leave a comment and let me know!

  1. Do you have extra Ziplock bags? I may have missed that in a previous post. BTW, I am loving your blog.

    1. I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I do keep some Ziplocs tucked away in one of the interior pockets for things like disposing of food wrappers, quick waterproofing, etc.
